1.0 Ecoboost won't rev over 1500RPM, Rough Idle, No Codes?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Been trying to get to the bottom of this with many online searches and forum visits, but I'm so far lost for ideas

Car is a 2013 1.0 Ecoboost Focus. It recently had the issue with the oil pump intake being blocked which has been cleared out and oil pressure is good, however I'm unsure if this could be related or not, but certainly worth a mention.

The car idles a bit rough, and will only rev to 1500rpm, however at 1500rpm it is idling smoothly. The the car hits the same 1500rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc, and has very little power, as if throttle opening is being heavily restricted too.

There are no codes displayed or stored, via the onboard test menu

The dash trick to read fault codes is a waste of time, you need to plug in to read the codes. Preferably Forscan on a laptop with a modified Elm327 cable.

Thanks, got it plugged onto an AA tablet today. Thought I'd post an update, will maybe help someone else out in the future.

So, of all things

The throttle pedal was registering between 15-85% from no throttle to full travel, however the throttle body was sitting at 23% or something and not registering anything else, so wasn't moving.

Diagnostics used to recalibrate the throttle and throttle body and its perfect. Why it failed all of a sudden is a mystery, but its good now. Computers, eh?

Good news. This above all else shows how important it is to use decent test gear. The guesswork approach would have cost tons of money and loads of time!
