12V sockets - Changing from constant power to Ignition ONLY

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Basically in my 2008 1.8ltr TDCI Estate the 12V socket's constantly have power (no it doesn't turn off 10m after the door is closed, night, day etc its always on)

So I am wanting a solution to change the constant power to the ignition ONLY.
I don't want any-work around such as "simply hot-wire the dash-cam into an ignition only fuse" or "wire a switch between 12v and your dash-cam" (I have already resorted to that last example)

Basically. I want a solution not a fix.
For instance, not how this post ended:

Thanks all, I hope I get a response as my last post vanish strangely 😕

Cheers, Dan

they turn off it just takes up to half an hour..... as it stupidly takes so long you either don't know or don't trust it to work....   (stick a bulb in there are see)

there's a box of tricks under the glove box full of options to find a switched 12 volt feed - go play

I mean why would you want a wire dangling around the dash when you can neatly route it behind the trim and it be completely invisible?

Anyway the fastest solution i could think of is to run a new 12v ignition feed piggybacked from another fuse in the fusebox (such as rear wiper). Then just unplug the positive wire thats already on the 12v socket and replace it with the wire you ran from the piggyback.

There's so setting, switch or programmable option to change how the 12v socket currently operates.

You probably posted your previous topic in general chat, which is only for non Ford related topics so it would've been deleted.

Yeah sorry mate should've explained a bit more, I have wired 2 separate 12v's under the console wired from the original 12v and the wiring for the dashcam is neatly hidden behind there.

So basically the suggestion is quite plainly to wire from a fuse which is only active upon ignition to the 12v and replace the origin al 12v wire.

Why didnt ford think of this originally? However only a handful of people seem to have this issue which confuses me.

And alright cheers, funny as I cant remember what is was so couldnt've been overally important.

Cheers

Thanks mate but I have had a look, left various things on to see if it would turn off and it doesnt. stays on all night.

Not sure if this might help, but the Mk3 Mondeo has the option to power the lighter socket via ignition or permanently, and it depends where you plug the fuse, - there are 2 positions in the fusebox it can be plugged into. So take a look in your owners handbook in case yours also has this option.

I had exactly the same issue - simply solved by the addition of a brand new 12v socket that went live on ignition only. (have no idea what Ford were thinking by supplying a permanent live socket!)
