car failing to start after stall

Featured Replies

so i got into my car this morning and the car started up fine, i let it warm up a little then went on me way, when i got to the end of my road i accidentally stalled. When i tried to restart the engine it wouldn't start, it was trying to start but wouldn't and at the same time i got a power steering failure warning on the dashboard, i then turned the car completely off and turned it back on in which case it started up fine, does anyone know what might be causing this as in the past the engine would start up right away after stalling, i also tried to recreate the problem later on in the day by stalling the car on purpose to try and reproduce the fault but it started up fine as well ?

It would help to know what engine it is.

Its a 1.6 TDCI econetic

It's probably just a one-off rather than a fault.  The ECU gets confused if you try to restart too quickly.  Sometimes it will restart just by pressing the clutch which surprised me the first time it happened!

Also, modern diesels aren't overly fond of being restarted instantly having stopped abruptly i.e. due to a stall.

No worries, maybe work on that clutch control if you're making a habit of it!
