Heater issues

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

New to this forum and looking for some assistance. i have a 2012 Ford Focus Ecoboost Zetec.  Recently, the heating went really hot, no matter what setting it was on, it just blewreally hot air. Now it wont get warm at all. The fan works on all settings but does not blow out all vents.

Any ideas please. Thank you

Check you coolant level.

Thanks for your reply.

All checked. all good. Fan running but only blowing air to the windscreen, whatever setting I put it on. Some warm air coming through

It sounds like the cable connecting the control to the flaps in the heating system has broken or become detached. In the Focus the heater matrix is always hot and the air temperature is controlled by mixing hot and cold airflows. Strangely though your description suggests that the other control, that directs the airflow around the car, has also broken.

Thanks Mike. Do you know what would have caused this? Is it an easy fix?

I don't have any experience of working with the HVAC controls. All the meagre info I have is gleaned from Haynes and threads on the forum so we'll have to hope one of the experts chimes in.

Sounds like a very odd fault.  Being a Zetec, I assume it's just manual dials and not climate control?

As Mike suggests, it seems like both the direction and temperature controls have become faulty.  First step is to remove the dash fascia and make sure both cables are still connected to the control panel.  I suspect a clip that holds both cables may have become dethatched but you'll have to physically check I'm afraid.

Yes manual. Is it easy to remove the dash facia?

I've not got any personal experience taking apart the MK3 centre console but this Youtube clip seems to cover what you need.
