KA excessive engine breaking

Featured Replies

Hi bought a KA 02reg with 12kmiles on it for my daughter. Great little car but there is excessive engine breaking on over run. When you let off the accelerator it’s like your breaking. The car coasts fine both out of gear and with the clutch pressed. Any advice appreciated!

Stretching the memory here. My Mrs had a 2005 Ka for 7 years, and the engine braking seemed pretty normal to me, compared to the Audi diesel I had at the time (which, as a diesel, had a strong degree of engine braking). However, when she finally swapped the Ka for a Fiesta 1.25, the lack of engine braking on that compared to the Ka was very noticeable.

So it could just be a characteristic, if all else is ok, in comparison to whatever else you're used to, particularly if it's a more modern petrol turbo which has very little engine braking.

Welcome to the site, btw, and best wishes for the season!😀
