Warped front Discs or Not?

Featured Replies

Our 66 plate Edge with 40,000 miles on the clock recently showed symptoms of warped front discs, when braking  from speed a slight shaking could be felt  on the brake pedal and steering wheel.

Last year I’d changed the front disc pads  and everything was OK, unknown to me the new pads where slightly bigger than the originals so where touching unworn and rust parts of the disc, as the mileage increased and with a bit of hard braking parts of the rusty disc broke off causing the symptoms .!

So just incase you have the similar  symptoms this might be the cause!

It is a general rule when changing brake pads if there is any signs of badly rusted edges and centre to the brake discs . The disc’s need replacement with new brake pads . Although rust is one contributing factor for the replacement of the disc’s    the material the disc pads are made from is very hard and the thickness of the disc’s becomes thinner and liable to create hot spots , that will create a brake shudder.
