kuga phev recall battery

Featured Replies

Just had new battery pack fitted 2 weeks ago and have found when fully charged i can only get 28 miles instead of the 35 -39 i was getting before between March to July 2020. Doesn't hold its charge either and uses up to many electric mile up on short journeys. Has anyone else come across this issue?

I’m getting nearly the same. Not experiencing it not holding its charge though. Will monitor now though. Thanks

Just charged again and only got 22 electric miles😡

Think you will find in this cold or very cold weather you will never get the max miles .

Our battery change was done before delivery at Valencia factory, getting roughly 25 to 29 miles on full charge and fully charged 2 days ago left for 2 days and only 19 miles left on car electric range not very happy with this 😞

My iPhone can show 19% charge when I use it in the cold, but put it my warm pocket for a bit and it rises to 30 or 40%. I know it’s not the same battery, but the principle is the same. Most batteries are affected by cold.

Hi nick

I have the exactly same problem as you , with our car making me mad now , how is your car doing any change yet ?

Most of the tests I watched of the Kuga PHEV said it was easy to reach the WLTP 56km EV range, even increase it if used only in city driving. I did not get my unit yet, reserved on september, but would be very disapointing to find it's autonomy has decreased so much after that battery change.

I just got a replacement battery pack for my Kuga 2020 STLINE-X 8 days ago.
If the car is at 99% while charging, it indicates that the range is 44km/28miles and suddenly at 100% a range of 54km/33miles, adding a jump of 10km range. This only occurred once, on the day it got my KUGA back. After a second charge it never got to this range, max is 46km/29miles
I assumed there might be a bug in the FORDPASS App, but the KUGA also indicates this range on the dashboard in the car.

So I started to monitor the battery pack by driving full electric (EV only).

The first time i drove the kuga fully charged it indicated that the KUGA  have 54km/33miles range. What struck me is that after I have driven 2 kilometers/+/-1 mile the capacity jumped to 40km/24mile range, which is 25% of my charging capacity, which the battery loses after 2 km/1 mile of driving.
After this, the battery will continue to discharge as normal. After the 2e , 3e or 4th charge the battery capacity never reached the 54/33mile range again.

Conclusion is that I can only cover 44 KM/ 27 miles with this new replacement battery pack and that the old battery pack had a much larger range than this new version.

Another noteworthy point is:
When plugging in the charger, it makes a high-frequency squeaking sound after 25 seconds.

I directly complained at my ford dealer that the range is not nearly as the old battery.

This was there official response:

It is true that there are several reports about the exact same problem as you have identified.
A reduced capacity of the new battery packs.

We as a dealer report this to the manufacturer, but for the time being we receive the message that the complaints are being collected.
So there is, at the moment, no solution for it.

I have received the sound file, while charging the battery, the water pump is controlled to regulate the battery temperature.

This is an electric pump.

This is indeed audible, I will check with different Kugas if there is a difference in the degree of noise during charging.
I honestly admit that we've never researched this before.
I have continued this complaint to Ford Netherlands with the question whether this is a known problem.

---

This means they are aware about this issue but nothing is done about it so far, this is too me unacceptable.
So i would suggest to complain at FORD and the your FORD Dealer about this Battery limitation, so FORD needs to pick this up.

Identical to our car symptoms, only spoke to salesman who sold car , and he spoke to master technician, it seems there is a lot of KUGA’S that have had battery change, but have have less range , my salesman said range was up to 35 miles , not even getting in the 30 mile range charged fully again today 26 miles on 100%

this isn’t acceptable to me , and after the wait for car & problem solved seems like we are entering round 2 with problems , who should I complain to there must be a high point of contact that can help us with this situation!!
