Panoramic Sunroof

Featured Replies

Hi All

Do not know how it actually happened, probably stone or something similar from another vehicle tyre.

The fixed part of my panoramic sunroof now resembles crazy paving, as attached picture.

I did not find it myself, my daughter pointed it out to me the other day after she got in the back of my car.

I have found a part number from an American parts seller " tascaparts.com ", being " JT4Z-58500A18-B "

Would anyone be able to confirm correct part number and give idea of price.

I do have £150 voucher from Fmc to use up, but suspect it may cost more than this.

That's the weirdest shaped crack I've seen.

If you have glass cover on your insurance this should be covered.

Makes me think someone has thumped the glass roof 😡

I've seen that type of crack a few times but only on Range Rover products. Its a Stress crack caused by a slight imperfection in the edge of the glass dating back to when the car was made. The edge of the glass may have had just a slight knock when it was fitted in the factory but the glass remains intact for years before temprature changes and general vibration of driving eventually causes the glass to fail. Once the crack starts it spreads like wild fire as the stress in the glass is released.

All most all insurance policies will cover the glass roof.

This happened to me a while back whilst driving behind a lorry on the M2, stone flew up and dropped onto the glass, cost for replacement £1653 !! luckily my insurance via glass policy replaced it as it was classed as a moving glass part and not a static pan roof, didnt effect no claims discount, only £75 glass excess to pay. check your car insurance as it may be covered.

Hi.

You would need to check with your insurer as sometimes glass panoramic roofs aren't covered under the windscreen section.

Regards,

Dan.

Hi All

Ta for feedback so far. Reading through my insurance (including the small print), it would seem that the sunroof isn't covered by my policy. I do have full comp insurance.

Next step is going to be ask a dealer.

Stay safe.

I'd still be tempted to ring up the insurers as for me a Panoramic sliding roof is not a sunroof. If it's in the specification of the car when factory built then it should be covered ?

After a bit of googling it does seem as though the windscreen or glass cover doesn't come into it but if you are full comp then the insurer should cover it under your fully comp policy but you will have to pay you excess both mandatory and voluntary and depending on your situation regarding any previous claims it may effect you NCB and will almost certainly result in a premium increase the following year.

So it's really a question of which way to go.....insurer or hand in pocket ......

Good luck.
