Fiesta Mk7 (08-12) Sony Stereo Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi.

Aware there are lots of posts about this, but the Mk7 stereos are so variable that I don't believe any of them answer my question.

I have a 2012 (08-12) MK7 fiesta edge with the silver 6 button stereo fascia, pictured (no Bluetooth). I desperately want Bluetooth connectivity in the car (and DAB if possible).

I bought a Sony mk7 stereo (DAB, but not Sat Nav) pulled from a 2012 fiesta mk7 (pictured) complete with screen, head unit and sync Bluetooth module. The seller also threw in the wiring loom and the dab antenna adapter.

I only realised after purchase that this was pulled from a fiesta mk7 facelift (12-17). I thought, since I had all the parts, plus the loom, I could maybe get it to work.

After installing, I managed to get DAB and FM/AM working, and CD player. However, the phone button does nothing, and in the settings menu I can't select SYNC settings. I can highlight it but it won't do anything. I also can't set the date or the clock. I can press adjust date/time settings, but it won't let me set any values.

I'm now torn about whether to put them back on eBay and count my losses, or whether to try using Forscan to try to 'activate' the Bluetooth module.

Has anybody managed to get a 12-17 stereo working in a 08-12 mk7 vehicle, or is it just not possible? Don't want to spend more money trying to use Forscan or IDS if I'm ultimately fighting a losing battle.

Thanks.

Dane

For anybody wondering the same thing in the future, it is unfortunately not possible to fully fit a mk7.5 (2013-2017) stereo into a pre-facelift (2008-2012) model - even with the loom.

While the stereo itself does fit, unfortunately the loom will not  fully connect to the car (there is a grey socket in front of the head unit which I believe connects to the car allowing you to edit the car/SYNC settings. This socket is different in the facelift models). This is likely to do with SYNC being added to facelift models and syncing with car settings etc.

I managed to get the cd player, dab radio and LCD screen working, but since I was unable to connect the loom to every socket, the Bluetooth/SYNC module does not power up and you are therefore unable to use Handsfree/Bluetooth/Aux/USB.

I think there is a hack available on another forum, using a parrot adapter and some soldering required, but that seems like too much effort and I don't believe it works 100% of the time. I'll likely be reselling the Sony stereo/loom/etc I purchased.

If you're looking for a Bluetooth/Sony upgrade for pre- facelift, you need to get the Sony fascia with silver trim and associated head unit. I don't believe this has DAB, so you'd just be getting it for Bluetooth and aesthetics. If you have an edge model, like myself, without Bluetooth connectivity, you'll also need the wiring loom for pre-facelift models and handsfree microphone too. I'm pretty sure the standard steering wheel controls will work, but worth looking into this.

Frustrating, but I hope this helps anybody else attempting the same upgrade in future.

Since your car didn't have phone connectivity, in theory what you bought should be pretty much plug and play into a pre-facelift that already has it?

can you tell me where you got the replacement its exactly the model I need - many thanks

No. Sync isn't supported on the pre-facelift. It is possible to retrofit the Bluetooth that was an optional extra at the time though.

Ebay or local breakers yard is your best bet.

Bugger.  I quite like the look of the Sony fascia.

There was a Sony option for the pre-facelift. If you already have the 0-9 button stereo (with the larger red screen) then I believe the plugs are the same so you can just plug the fascia in without the need for the rest of the stereo.

Mine is like the silver one in the OP, but, with a lot more buttons.  It's got bluetooth connectivity, etc, not DAB though.  I'll have to see if I can find the Sony option one.

Thanks, Luke. 👍

I have the exact same car as you, 2012 fiesta edge. Exact same radio and I also would like to upgrade it to support Bluetooth and not have to use these cheap short-term solutions. Will what I have linked fit? If so will it be as easy as take original out and plug the Sony one in or will there be additional steps. Also it doesn't have like a bluetooth button on it or anything so I assume it does support it? New to this stuff any help would be appreciated.

Hi I have the same issue, my fiesta does not have Bluetooth and I’m looking to replace the whole stereo for a CarPlay unit. Can anyone help me find which is the right one online.

My PFL is non sony but has bluetooth. I am assuming i cannot get dab at this point? Although it looks like someone in UK on Facebook has managed to get it done.

Hi, just a quick question regarding the Sony head unit. I have upgraded my 6 button silver facia and small red screen to the Sony facia and blue/white screen with no issues.

The car didn't have rear speakers, but I have upgraded to the straight fit Focal speaker kit all around and enabled the rear speakers in ForScan so they work. However the rear ones are very quiet compared to the fronts, even with the fader set slightly to the rear more.

I have found a 2010 Sony head unit (non DAB) for sale with exctly the same connectors as mine.

Just wondering if anyone knows if it has a little more power than the 6 button standard unit? I know will probably have to enable the branded or hi spec audio setting in FForscan.

I'm not bothered at all about the Bluetooth not working as I have one of the aux connecting dongles that works perfectly.

Hi all, Apologies for jumping on this post, back with a fiesta after having an awful vauxhall experience. I have the bog standard radio shown in the posts above, I want to to upgrade to the Sony stereo as I want Bluetooth, is it just a case of plug and play?, will i also need to upgrade the screen, its a 16 plate face-lift version
