The first line of diagnosis is you have to totally rule out the fob battery. Make sure the contacts are nice and tight, that it is in the correct way round, and with a multimeter, it is punching out 3.2v...

a little further investigation.  the battery in the fob is brand new and fine as well as the correct way round.  fuses in the fuse box are ok.  However the strange bit is if i lock the car manualy with the key in the drivers door and unlock if i open the drivers side rear door the alarm goes off all other doors are fine.ie i can open them with out the alarm going off.  the only way i can turn the allarm off is to start the engine.

does anyone know where the ariel for the fob is and is it accesable to see if i am getting a signal on it.
