Hi all I've done something stupid/silly. 

I went to change the battery in the key fob and in the process of removing the part of the fob that contains the battery (with the remote central locking buttons) from the key blade, I put the screwdriver in the hole your supposed to use to separate the parts and have hit and damaged the circuit board and the central locking buttons no longer work. 

 

The key  sitll works with the door lock and starts the car. I oviously want the key working as it is intended. What i would like to know if it's possible to get a used or aftermarket key off Ebay and get my local independent garage to program it to my car, or if it is more advisable to take it into my local Ford dealer. 

 

If someone can point me towards the right key on Ebay (it's a flat blade) or advise on what the dealer will charge for a new key,  programming and how long it'll take to do?

Hello John, how bad is the damage to the circuit board, can you post a photo? 

You can buy replacement keyfobs from the likes of Amazon or Ebay and do the programming yourself. You need to move the transponder chip from the broken fob over to the new one, they just pop out with a small screwdriver. 

There is a programming procedure that you can then do yourself to teach the car the replacement keyfob. I can explain that if you get a new keyfob, but it may be that your original can be repaired cheaply.

If you have a local Timpsons:

Hi here's a pic of the damage. Ive already ordered a key from ebay with any luck should be with me on Tuesday.  Can i assume  that there is a video of how to reprogram a key on the you tube.

Blood*y hell pal you was a bit heavy handed with that 😞 A bit late now but you should have researched how to replace the battery, nothing worse than not knowing how something comes apart, mine went dead a couple of years ago, not a clue how to get into the thing.

This should help you with the reprogramming.....
 

 

Thought I'd give an update on this thread. I ordered a key of the Ebay on Saturday (19/6/21), and it arrived this morning. Transferred the transponder/immobiliser chip over and programmed the central locking part of the key.

The central locking now works as it should and the car starts and runs sa all is now good
