Needing some help choosing what year and spec. Edge to buy.

Featured Replies

Hi, we are looking to buy an Edge but i'm having trouble deciding on what one. We have driven a 2018 St line with the lux pack and thought it was great in all aspects except for the colour.

The more i scan the cars for sale the more undecided i'm becoming, the classic thought process of 'for a few more grand i can get this, and a few more i can get this' until i'm £6k more than the first Edge we looked at, which i'm happy to spend if it is justified.

I've had a search through this forum but could do with a few things confirming as i'm getting myself muddled up.

2017 Sport became 2018 ST line. With Lux pack the spec looks the same (heated/ cooled front seats, heated steering wheel, sync 3 stereo, pan. sunroof etc)

2018 to 2019 was a facelift and the stereo was changed from Sony to Bang and Olefson and with the lux pack had all of the above.

Whatever year it is i read that the lux pack and especially LED headlights are a must but my dilemma is 2017 sports are around £20k and 2019 ST lines seem to be pushing £30k with the 2018 ST line understandably in the middle. Is it worth the extra for the newer model? Is it just a bit updated or a lot better?

I have recently changed from a 2018 Sport with Lux pack to a 2019 ST-Line with Drivers assistance pack and adaptive steering. i upgraded because of a number of reasons, the 2019 model has a EcoBlue engine with 238ps compared to 210 for the 2018, all 2019 models have LED Matrix headlights which compared to the Halogen on the 2018 model is just worlds apart and looks so much more fresh. the 2019 model with drivers assistance also has BLIS, adaptive cruise control and other safety features which are not always standard on the 2018 model. Also with the 2019 model and the Ford Pass App you can also remote start/lock/unlock which is a bonus in cold weather the ST-Line has heated steering wheel as standard too. I personally prefer the front of the 2019 compared to the 2018, I managed to pick up my 2019 ST-Line with 13000k miles for £28k, i did have a few issues which were sorted under warranty. You should be able to find some Edge brochures online which will give you some idea of the options available too.

Thanks for all the information, that's a great help. We're swaying towards a 2019 St line, although my wife is going to go for a test drive in the plug in hybrid st line x kuga, not a great deal more new than a 2019 edge and doesn't seem that much smaller inside, she does a lot of short journeys so may work out better.
