Dealer fitted reversing camera issues

Featured Replies

Hi All,

First post in here so please excuse if I breach any rules (will quickly correct any!).

Backstory:

I purchased a new ST-X PHEV Kuga on the 26th June from Trustford. It didn’t have a factory fitted reversing camera installed and I had said that it was necessary that I have one (found it very useful on the old focus). Dealer confirmed that they would be able to fit the camera module, using genuine Ford parts and technicians etc. and that it would have all the functionality as factory fitted.

So I agreed, paid the extra to have it fitted, and on receiving the car, got home and realised that it wasn’t right (colours all off, couldn’t see more than 5cm away from bumper because of the angle etc.)

I went back to them and today they ‘fixed’ the issue, there is a different camera module installed, wider field of view so can now see backwards at least. But the guidelines don’t work or zoom function etc. I asked about this and they explained that dealer fitted doesn’t work with the guidelines showing the angle of the wheels.

I had to run to pick up my daughter so said I’d pick this up with them later

My Question to the more knowledgeable people here:

Is it at all possible to have the guidelines and ‘factory fitted’ features of the reversing camera or is ANY (even dealer fitted) post-factory camera going to be purely a camera?

I feel like I’ve been mis-sold this camera and installation and feeling rubbish about it. Which is a shame because we love every other aspect of the car!

Really appreciate any advice / thoughts from you all.

Many thanks!

Hi Daniel,

Two issues here I guess:

a) If the dealer promised a certain level of functionality and you don't have it, then you have a dispute there. Unless you have it in writing or have recorded a conversation (a mate of mine often does this in dealer service) it's hard to prove who said what, etc.

b) Functionality -  various companies offering retrofit cameras, looks like this one for example does display the "straight" lines, but not the ones showing the direction of the wheels. I've an idea it was it mentioned in another thread that you can't get that with a retrofit. Hopefully someone will know for sure.

Can you prove what you were told? If so I'd just bounce the car back and say they have not provided what you paid for.

I've just installed a Factory Fitted 'Look - a - Like' reverse camera to my Mk4 Focus. It looks like the real thing but the lines don't move & the zoom also doesn't work. On the plus side the picture on the Sync3 display is fantastic and it cost less than £70

Thanks Roger,

Benefit of the pandemic, I do have everything in writing, not with a clear list of features but good enough with it being 'the same as factory fitted'. So will pursue that avenue.

I have also seen others say that the other functionality isn't possible outside of a factory fit (which is mad in my view) but at least that aspect can be set to one side.

I've definitely learned the lesson, only go for factory-fitted parts when going new.

Thanks again!

Hi Unofix,

I can yeah, I'll go down that avenue but it's good to know that for the moving lines / zoom feature set it looks like it's only possible on factory fitted. Nuts, but at least I don't have to argue that point.

Thanks for your help!
