Bonnet release lever

Can anybody advise me how to remove the bonnet release lever in the footwell. I have removed the blanking plug in the centre and I cannot see how it is attached to the cable. Is it a push fit? Once I remove it will I need to fit a new one. I am trying to access the release cable so that I can open the bonnet.  Thanks for any assistance

    Is the cable not attached to the handle? The handles are quite stiff, you have you give it a really good pull to release the bonnet catch!

    The cable is attached and the lever travels its full distance. I can feel that the cable is not broken. what I don't know, is how the lever is attached to the mechanism. Ford lists the lever as the same one that is fitted to the S MAX and GALAXY of the same year. I just cannot find a workshop manual for any of these models/year. USA manuals do not list interior fitting in their manuals. I have tried the usual trick of having the lever pulled and giving the bonnet a sharp slap on the area around the bonnet lock
