Engine Systems Fault - 2006 2.0 TDCi

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've had the dreaded 'Engine Systems Fault' appear on the dash and the car is in limp mode (revs limited to 3k max), plus it's running a bit lumpy.

Fuel filter has been changed - no joy.

The car is still reporting the following faults:

F0193-61 - Fuel Rail Pressure sensor high input

P0380-78 Glow Plug Control circuit

I've just measured the FRP and it read 25662.98 psi, when idling, and doesn't increase when revved!

As the pressure isn't increasing when revved, I'm assuming therefore that the sensor is knackered - does that sound correct? I'm a bit sceptical as the car is also running lumpy, which sounds to me that there's more wrong than just the sensor.

Is it easy enough to change the sensor myself (I just about managed to prime the system after changing the fuel filter -will I have to do that again?)

Car has done 270+k miles, with minimal maintenance so I'm reluctant to spend too much more money o it (poor car!)

Thanks for your help

W

I don't think it is a sensor problem. Possible fault with the high pressure fuel pump. There are others on this forum like MasterTech or Luke4efc  who will be able to give more advice

Thanks Uno..... yep, I was also now wondering about the pump - the car struggled to start a couple of times on a multi-stop route this morning. However wouldn't a fault code specific to the pump pop up?

I've ordered the sensor which will arrive tomorrow - is it worth me fitting this first to see what happens - how easy are they to fit?

Cheers

There is no actual code for High Pressure pump failure. You just get codes saying the high pressure fuel line is out of spec.

It was the Fuel Rail Pressure sensor. Car now running better than it has done for 100k miles!!!

£14 sensor from ebay. Took 2 mins to change, but then 1.5hrs to prime the fuel lines again!!

Thanks for your help
