Ford Edge 2018 - Power train and stability light coming on intermittently

Featured Replies

HI, I'm 2 years into owning my edge and over the last few weeks the power train light has come on, generally as I'm moving between 50 - 65 mph.  The light goes off as soon as I turn the engine off and off.  I called Ford in Sheffield and they said as it was intermittent they would struggle to diagnose!  It did it again last week on the M1 travelling at 75 and luckily I was able to pull over.  There is a 3 week wait to get into Lookers for a diagnostic, will I do any long term damage driving it in the next 3 weeks? ( the light has gone off again now!)

Also, this morning the stability control light came on!.  I've turned off traction control on the dashboard and will get Lookers to have a look at this aswell.

Anyone else had these problems?

Thanks

Carol

If your waiting for diagnostics, buy yourself an OBDII reader off Amazon and read the codes when the fault is present, then share those here. Also, most faults that clear will still be logged in the Transmission ECU, so the fault doesn't always need to be present (and active) to see what has previously been at fault, especially with engine and transmission issues!

Hi Simon, thanks.

Hello Carol, welcome to the Ford Owners Club.

As Simon says (no pun intended) you need to read the fault codes - DTC's

The best way to do it is using the software called "Forscan", its free unless you want to start getting in to replacing things.

Use an ELM327 lead to connect a laptop to the OBDII port.

Lead is available from :-    https://tunnelrat-electronics.fwscart.com/USB_Modified_with_switch_ELM327/p4541936_17045457.aspx

Software is available from :-   https://forscan.org/download.html

If I had a pound every time I heard that ... I'd have £6.43 by now! 🤣
