Steering Lock Malfunction

Featured Replies

I own a 2011 Ford Fiesta Style 1.25L. I have recently had an issue with the steering lock. Usually if the steering lock comes on, a little wiggle whilst turning the key would solve it. Not in this car. Everything is fine, the car starts fine, but the steering lock come on after the engine has started. After a few times of turning it off and on again, it unlocks itself again.

Any ideas?

Thats quite a serious problem. Think you need a new ignition barrel

Sounds pretty dangerous.  Years ago someone tried to steal my motorbike and forced the steering lock. I thought it was permanently broken in the off position, one day when going round a corner the lock came on and I went flying across the road, apart from hitting the road I was lucky not to have been run over.I don’t think you should drive it like this. If it was mine I would probably remove the internal parts of the steering lock so that I could be sure it won’t go on suddenly. I admit I don’t know how easy it is to do that. You don’t need a steering lock really.
