Jimarilo
2017 Kuga, just done a full service on my folks Kuga and noticed the plastic sump covered in black oil. Looks like it is coming from high up at he back nearside of the engine Peugeot/Citroen engine Any clues ? Cheers
jlawes20389
It could be from the high pressure fuel pump, I've read that that can be a common oil leak. In fact, mine is suffering from it at the moment.
iantt
I would guess high pressure fuel pump too.
Jimarilo
That makes sense as it looks more like fuel rather than oil Many thanks will investigate further
Jimarilo
Just after I replied, I suddenly thought you both meant oil leaking not fuel Does this normally mean replacing the pump ? looks like the best part of £400 with an exchanged unit, which probably suggest at least £1000 for new
iantt
Normally a new gasket between the head and pump stops it. If that doesn't fix then a pump may be required. The gasket was replaced on my Mondeo 2.0tdci (2016) just before I bought it a few years ago. Still not leaking.

Jimarilo
So seems to be a common fault with the French diesel and the bad design of the housing that the pump bolts onto Probably a re-occurring fault with time
Jimarilo
Thanks for the replies and the heads up, parts are in tomorrow. The main gasket between the pump drive housing and the head was in stock but decided to go for the drive housing gasket that splits the unit, also the pump "O" ring. Got a large tin of Holts brake cleaner to clean off the oil Suggestions of using loctite 574 on the gasket seems to have good results
