Fiesta 2011 1.4 tdci non start desperately need help please

Featured Replies

Hi all my lads 2011 fiesta 1.4 tdci suddenly died on him as though it ran out of fuel got the car back code read it and got code p1180-00 which seems to be low fuel pressure related but no code relating to a certain part I thought I’d change fuel filter to start with in case of blockage so stuck a Bosch one in no different on live data while cranking I’m only getting 50 psi fuel pressure when desired amount is 4500 or there abouts any help be much appreciated as desperately need to get back on the road

Hi Dean, seems to me like you have already done all the fault finding. So you have very low fuel pressure, my thought would be replace the fuel pump.

Have you bled all of the air out of the fuel system after changing filter? They don’t have an electric pump to get the fuel up from tank to high pressure fuel pump. When you change filter all the fuel runs down the pipe back into tank. The high pressure pump can only suck up fuel it can’t suck the air to bring fuel up behind the air. The older diesels can a small squeezey pump in the fuel pipe on top of engine to bleed the system. It’s a tricky job. Took me all day when I changed the filter on my 2007 fiesta and included me getting a mouthful of diesel from me sucking the fuel up the pipe. Hopefully someone can advise the best way

Hi yes got fuel up there put a hand primer in there to pump it all up

I had a similar issue on my 1.6 tdci. Check the electrical connexion of the fuel inlet metering valve (located on the fuel high pressure pump). Check the connexion both at the valve and at the pcm. In my case I had to un plug / plug both ends of the cable (and use a bit of contact cleaner).

Checked both cleaned and put back still no go next check is get injectors tested

If you have low fuel pressure, then cleaning or replacing the injectors will not help. The only thing that creates the fuel pressure is the pump.

The problem has to be either fuel is not getting to the pump, or the pump is defective.

A bit of a long shot but have you checked that the emergency fuel cut off has nor tripped. On some cars there is a physical switch, on others it is reset automatically by doing things in a certain order. Your handbook should tell you the procedure.

Another thing I would check is that all the fuses are ok. There will be one that controls the pump, probably in the engine compartment fuse board although it will not be marked for that specifically.

Had the injectors tested and it appears they are knackered 2 letting fuel straight through so can’t build any fuel pressure other 2 just behind so looking like 4 new injectors needed

When you change the fuel filter a good tip is to get some fuel into the new filter. I take the old filter and tilt it to see which nozzle the fuel drips from, if the fuel looks clean then I put a small funnel on the same nozzle of the new filter and pour the fuel from the old one to the new one, once the old one is empty I fit the new one then hand pump the fuel lines. Should cut your hand pumping down by more than half and I always get mine to start first time.
