Potential new owner

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im very close to a deal on a 2016 Edge Sport with auto gears and lux pack.

its 1 owner, fsh (local garage, none ford) very low mileage.

price is £25k but it does seem to be an immaculate car.

Any issues with reliability? I want this for towing a caravan. Done a fair bit of homework on it as a towcar and it seems well suited. I will need to get a towbar fitted but thats for another day…

Hows the auto box? Reliable?

any thoughts and opinions appreciated.

cheers

andy

Ok, a quick update to my post above….

ive decided against it- its pretty expensive due to the mega low mileage. Of bigger concern is that all of the services have been done by a local garage -  so no chance of the autobox oil change being done and no specialist software updates etc….

Ive pretty much read all the posts of interest in the edge forum and it seems almost all cars have issues, some minor, some major.

I think I will look towards and XC60 / Sorento / Santa Fe etc….

I've had my 2016 Edge from new (5 years next week!) and had less issues with it than I have had with my old Kuga (Mk1) or Focus before that. I regularly tow a 1600Kg caravan with no issues and if Ford still sold the Edge in the UK, I'd have another one without any hesitation. I'm now holding onto it until it starts costing me money, but at the rate things have gone, I don't expect that to happen anytime soon. Compared to the Volvo, Kia and Hyundai, you get a lot of car in the Edge for your money ... especially 2nd hand (Cost me nearly £38K new!).

If you looking at a good tow car, then if you don't get an Edge, I'd seriously consider the Kuga. It blows the others out the water for pulling power and stability.

Thanks Simon.
Im pretty concerned about the potential auto gearbox issues in the early UK Edges. The one I was looking at was a Sport with 10000 miles on it. 2016 costing £25k.

Ive seen a decent deal on an early manual….2016 titanium with 35000 miles for £20k.

Its a real dilemma….I Like the idea of the miles on the sport but like the idea of a less troublesome manual box on the Titanium!

Mines a 2016 (66 Plate) Auto Sport with 30K on the clock and not a single hick up mechanically. The older (pre-face lift) 6 speed box is a different beast to the later 8 speed models. Not sure what the difference is in reliability, but £25K for a 10000 mile car (if it has full service history and the transmission fluid change at 4 years is not bad!

You can get the manual box on the Sport too, it's not just a Titanium thing. My original order was for a Manual, but the dealer ordered the wrong one from the factory (they paid for the difference) and I'm so glad I got the Auto as its a cracking combo. with the Sports 210PS engine.
