Mk5 Mondeo Gearbox Troubles

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have a 2010 Mondeo TitaniumX SCTi with the 6 speed powershift 6DCT450 gearbox with just over 100k miles on it.

A few weeks ago the engine stalled when coming to a stop and the the car hesitated to move under very light acceleration when parking. I had the gearbox oil filter and oil replaced with genuine Ford parts and the car drove fine. You can feel the resistance from the new oil now. The old oil came out very black and very thin.

Now after a few days and maybe 100 miles or so I had the traction control, ABS and airbag warning lights come on all at the same time. Then the box got stuck in one gear but not always the same one, seems like sometimes it was in 3rd then later on in 5th or 6th. Also the drivers seatbelt no longer latches in and just comes out.

I received a fault reader this morning and have the following codes from FORScan:

PCM

P215B:64-08 - Vehicle Speed / Output Shaft Speed Correlation

U2005:86-27 - Vehicle Speed

ODBII

U2005-P - Vehicle Speed

ABS

C1A91 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor

RCM

U0415 - Invalid Data Received from Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module

I will get back in touch with the garage that did the oil but does anyone have any recommendations at all?

I'm thinking the new oil has confused the sensors as its taking more effort to turn the gears now but maybe its just hightlighted a failing Powershift box.  Weird on the ABS light when you'd think they are completely separate systems. I hope a new wheel speed sensor and maybe a seat belt will sort that.

Thanks all!

2010 is a mk4, possibly mk4.5 if it's the facelift from later in the year.

Sounds like 3 separate issues potentially, a new ABS sensor front left should sort the last few codes, it's a pretty common issue throughout the MK4 to Mk5.

Have you checked the seatbelt receiver hasn't accidentally had the pretensioner activate? From memory when that happens the buckle will not latch again once it's been released.

When was the oil last changed in the gearbox? If it's not been done as per schedule then the damage may already have been done unfortunately.

Not certain what your problem(s) can be but if you have the Getrag Powershift you have a Mk4.5 (Facelift) Mondeo.

I am very concerned when you say the oil came out very black!

It is imperative that the trans oil and filter is replaced every 37,500 miles or 3 years, whichever occurs first. If not it can cause premature failure of the transmission.

Have you still got the old oil filter that was removed - if so carefully examine the filter for signs of miniscule particles of off white in colour plastic bits. If there are any it is the known problem of the first signs of the front clutch breaking up and contaminating the complete transmission
