Problems starting after filling up petrol tank.

Featured Replies

I have a 2009 Mondeo Titanium.

When I go to fill up with petrol when the tank is below half once filled up the car doesn’t want to start straight away unless you give the car some gas with the acceleration pedal.

the car has had a new fuel pump fitted as the previous one looked like it was burned out or on way out and RAC man said it was the fuel pump. But the car still does the above after changing the fuel pump.

the car is needing a new exhaust flexi to the catalytic converter as it has a crack leaking exhaust fumes out.

we are at a loss what is causing the car to not want to start straight away. Can anyone help me? I will post a video what it sounds like when trying to start.

I hate Americanisms !!!!!!

So anyhow, after you have put petroleum spirit in the 'petrol tank' you have difficulty is starting the engine unless you depress the accelerator pedal.

It could be a problem with the tank breather vent being restricted which is causing a partial vacuum. The best thing to do would be use a laptop and the software FORScan and look to see if any DTC's have been stored when it is attempting to start. Also you will be able to use live data and monitor the fuel pressure. I can't see why it would be a fuel pump issue if it only happens when the tank is above half full.

Apologies for the Americanisms.
