Ford KA Street car High fuel consumption

Featured Replies

Hi I have just purchased a Ford KA 2011 model

But it seems to be drinking quite a lot of fuel.

Anybody have any news or help on this, I'm currently getting about 64 miles to £10 of fuel

I think that is pretty poor

Please help

What size engine and how many miles has it done ?

When did it last have a full service ?

If you say average fuel price is £1.40 a litre at the minute, that works out at around 7 litres of fuel for 64 miles. Convert this to MPG and it converts to around 41MPG.

I'd argue that's very good for town driving, and about average for motorway driving but you haven't said what sort of driving this is from...

That's about 40 mpg if it's petrol (based on unleaded being 138.9 p/l).

Also, how is it being used? around town or longer trips?

Sorry just around town, not any motorway

Thanks

It's 1.2 engine and serviced in early Dec

And its done 92000 miles petrol

I'd say that's about right for around town.

Do you think so?

I have to ask, since you think 40/41 MPG around town is poor, what sort of MPG do you expect ?

  • Author

I'm not sure,

I have a 1.6 diesel and probably trying to compare to that, that's all

How much are you paying per litre? Online it says the average is £1.45/litre so at that your getting 35mpg, current weather/time of year will affect that as your using fans, lights, wipers, heated screens more.

When was it last serviced?

Do you do long motorway runs or just short trips around town?

your getting 3mpg,

Think he's getting a little more than that. The OP has posted this question twice it's also live in the KA forum.

Edited but, I’m not going to post it again though.

Given this, I think you're doing well do get around 40 MPG out of it tbh.

Ok Luke thanks for the heads up

I just got a KA as my 1.8 astra was drinking to much petrol but the astra was getting 28mpg and the KA is only doing about 32.5mpg from what i’ve worked out. Same journeys to work and back, just driving around town no motorways/dual carriageways.
KA is a petrol, 2011, 1.2 engine with around 45k on the clock. Prev owner said it was serviced & MOT’d in Dec 2021 but i don’t think it was serviced.

that would probably be about right. The most you are realistically likely to get driving in town is 35mpg but that would be with warmer weather, and reasonably free flowing traffic.

There will be those on the forum who will tell you they get 99mpg or more, but they forget to mention that was driving it off a cliff. 🤣

Ah unofix… i do love your comments 😂 they give me a right giggle.

Such a small car and teenie weenie engine i was hoping i’d save some dosh on fuel. Oh well …. It is what it is.

Town driving in traffic really drags your mpg down. Different car, obviously, but I normally average mid-40s in mixed driving. Last month or so I've had to do a lot of short journeys in traffic and mpg dropped down into the 30s. Couple of decent runs and I'm back nearer 50.

Now why didn't I think of that when I was 18 and trying to get more speed out of my 850 Mini? 😀
