Unused fuse box slots (spares) - do they have a feed?

Featured Replies

Hi all

i have a mk5 mondeo, in the fuse box in the passenger footwell, there are a number of fuses that are spare/not used, but have fuses in them. My question is, are these just spare fuses or is there a feed to these fuses that I could tap into as I am looking to feed my caravan fridge (pin 10 on the electric hookup)

I have spares in my MK4.5 and they are live. Best way to check would be to test with a multi meter, though bear in mind that some could turn off 15 mins or so after the car is left (locked or unlocked).

That’s partly why I’m asking as for the life of me I can find my ***** multi meter!

Unless the Mk5 Mondeo is very different to all other Fords then they don't fit fuses in locations that are not used. So if there is a fuse fitted in the slot then chances are it is in use.

Empty slots that are not in use generally only have one contact fitted which will be supplied but could be under many different conditions, for example: Live all the time, Only live when the ignition is on, or live only when the lights are on. It will depend on what the fuse was intended to have been used for as to what kind of supply is available. However since as I've said there is only one side of the fuse contact fitted in unused slots it make using these locations difficult.
