Help to update my Syn3 to Sync 3.4

Featured Replies

Hi there guys, finally purchased me new Mondeo & I'm really glad to being back as a Mondeo owner... I'm looking for support & help in upgrading my Sync 3 to Sync 3.4, Now i know there are many videos and instructions on the ford website etc, and it does look easy but I'm crapping myself in case i do it wrong..

I have no experience in extracting a zip file, the one time i did it i totally messed it up and really don't want to go back there with my new purchase. Is there anyone out there who can lead a 53 year old child through it.

?????? Not sure what you mean about SYNC. The SYNC I know of is SYNC2 and SYNC3

SYNC2 came out in 2014/2015 and is for Mk5 Mondeo's. SYNC2 has an SD card in the centre arm rest compartment and to update you just swop the card for latest issue.

Then Mk5 Mondeo then progressed to SYNC3 which has no SD card, to upgrade it is done by an internet download etc.

You have a 2011 Mk 4.5 Mondeo which does not have the above system

Its a 2016, which has sync3 but the software version is 3.4. is an update just like you get on your mobile phone. im a bit confused as to best to the download and unzipping it, as information on the net etc. seems it can be confusing and sometimes fraught with worry.

Your Avatar says you have a 2011 Mondeo - hence my reply.

It is assumed your "new" car was a 2011 Mondeo

Have you done a search on this forum for SYNC3

OR, have a look at these threads on this link

If its a 2016, it might be Sync2 you have in the car.  Sync3 came out in 2016 as far as I know.  Not sure what the upgrade path from Sync2 to Syn3 is.

If you have Sync3, you should have apple carplay / android auto as part of that.  If you have an Android, you may need to install the Android Auto app (im an apple user so not 100% sure on that).  If you have an Apple phone, it should start CarPlay when you plug the phone in (make sure its screen is not locked first)

Sync3.4 is the latest version of Sync supplied to the newer cars, but all it does is change (slightly the fonts and colours), its the same map and same voice commands and it still has Android Auto / Apple Carplay as well.

There is a way to upgrade to the newest version of Sync, but if you mess it up thats it messed up, no going back.

I asked this question (sync 3 to 3.4) a while back:

In the end I stuck with Sync 3.

I used Cyan Labs to update the Sync3 in my 2017 Focus to latest version, plus maps.

It's really easy if you install their software, it does it all for you, just follow the steps
