2.0 tdci cylinder contribution and tapping sound

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

Mondeo 2008 with 2.0 tdci engine.

Need a little help, have a situation here that I don't understand and don't know what to check.

Engine has a ticking sound, comes somewhere from the back, right side, near the gearbox.

Plugged in obd scanner, looked at the cylinder Ballance

Cylinder 1: 0.6

Cylinder 2: 1.4

Cylinder 3: 0.92

Cylinder 4: 0.93

Had  spare injectors, first thought, swap them.

Swapped injectors, no change. Swapped injectors that were originally installed on car in between one and other, surprisingly no change.

Grabbed another set of 2 injectors, installed them, and, no change. Still 0.6 and 1.4.

So this is not an injector problem

Any ideas what could it be, what to check next?

Engine cranks nicely, even in cold weather, no issues.

Only thing, the annoying tap sound, that is by the way, not even near cylinder 1 or 2.

On cold weather starts smell a little like raw diesel from the exhaust.

Please help, any suggestions or ideas are very appreciated.

What about your valves?

Have you checked them?

You might have bad compression to those cylinders due to soot taking place to the valve seats. It maight cause a little noise due to the lack of compression.

Of course this is my poor opinion.

Good luck and i hope that is nothing important for the safety of you and your car!
