What made you choose your Edge?

Featured Replies

Having to give up my company Mondeo I wanted to get a large SUV to replace it.

I looked at, and test drove the following, the largest (used) SUVs I could afford :

  • Jeep Grande Cherokee;
  • Range Rover;
  • Jaguar F Pace;
  • Volvo XC90;
  • VW Touareg; and
  • Ford Edge.

I chose the Edge because it provided me with what I was looking for at by far the best value. Was one of the best looking too.

I had owned Fords for years (the car's layout, controls and features were all very familiar to me), found them to be very reliable and there was a main dealership within just a few miles.

Had a 2.0L Ford Focus for 5 years, never let me down, great car to drive hard.

Had a 2.0L AWD Ford Kuga Mk1 for 5 years, never let me down. Was surprisingly agile for a small SUV. Loved the split tailgate the Mk1 had.

Then I wanted something bigger ... then the Edge came to the UK, so I ordered one of the first Sync3 fitted models for the UK ... and to this day, 5 years 2 months later, it's not let me down once!

The size and features the Edge offered was the best part of £8K cheaper than its rivals at the time. I did consider the XC90 AWD, but couldn't justify the extra cost. The Ford dealer I use is a small family owned business and since my Focus (15 years ago), they've looked after me and my car and given me some massive discounts on buying the cars and servicing. That makes a big part of choosing a car, knowing the dealer and them knowing exactly what you as a loyal customer expect of them.

It's going to be a hard choice, with what to follow it with, the day I trade it in. But that isn't going to be anytime soon.

 Had two Kuga's, one after the other, both on 3yr pcp.  I needed more storage space but didn't like the early Edge's running the Kuga engine.  Once Ford fitted the bi-turbo engine the Edge became a good choice for me.  I test drove XC90, didn't like the interior.  Tried a CX5, too small, wanted to test an X Trail but they only come with petrol engines now, no good for towing.  Got £10k off list for a pre-registered ST-Line from the final UK import.  Couldn't find anything like it for the money

My reply is simple. I just liked how it looked. The ambient lighting, 20 inch alloys and the rear lights is what did it for me.

I needed to change my car after running a ford explorer for 20 years, it was starting to get to the point it need work doing to it.

I've always had fords so didn't look anywhere else, I went for at the time a 6 month old one as the new face lift one was coming out and I wasn't as keen on it as the original ones, I also liked the look of the car with the 20 inch wheels, rear lights etc, it was also the roughly the same size as the explorer, although after getting it found that the edge is 7 inches wider and 5 inches lower than the explorer, (made it interesting in some multi-storeys near me I can tell you) the boot floor space is bigger but the overall boot volume is smaller due to the slope on the back, it drives nicely and I really like it, and the fact it's got way more gadgets than the explorer!!!

Agreed, I also think the pre-facelift Edge is the better looking. What colour did you go for?

I went for the metallic blue which I think was called blue jeans

Had had Kuga mk1 and 2 but wanred something bigger to tow caravan with..Looked at Range Rover Sports and Disco Sports but didnt want the expensive repair bills..So went for 2016 Edge Titanium and absolutely love it..Getting tow bar fitted next week so will be taking the caravan for a tow ....

I was 24, my 2008 VW Passat had so many issues. I had liked the look of the Edge since its release, plus all the tech it had, after a year of ummm'ing and arrrr'ing about it, found an 11 month old one in the colour, with the extras I wanted for the right price. Few issues down the road and still love the look of it...

That's a great colour isn't it.

Where's the picture taken. Doesn't look like the UK!

In 2018 myself and my wife holiday'd in California on a "fly drive" tour.

Had pre booked a Hyundai Tuscon for the trip, however when we arrived at SF Airport, we were offered a Ford Edge as the car

Having driven a number of Galaxys over the years i chose the Edge

Did SF to Monterey, to Yosemite, to Death Valley to Vegas, over 2000 miles in 2 weeks

The Edge was so comfortable to drive, although the petrol engine in it was rubbish (especially as it was the Auto Box)

When i got home decided i wanted an Edge to replace the Galaxy i was driving

Found a 2018 Edge Sport, Auto with Lux Pack, 6 months old in a Ford Dealers (the dealers principals car)

Bought it and have loved it ever since. Will be 4 years old on 1st April

Have had a few problems like adaptive steering malfunction, high level brake light odd LED's gone, nearside windscreen washer packed up, but overall very happy

Mines the Ignot silver, however i have had the rear lights tinted (mainly to stop seeing the condensation)

Interesting number plate you've got on your Edge there - TX6X TXT?

It's not a legal configuration. Did you photoshop that on?

Yeh it's just photoshopped to cover the real normal UK plate

Would be nice if it was UK! But sadly was in Croatia, on the island of Pag if I remember. Took a road trip there back in 2019...

Looks like you had a great trip.

I've missed being able to do road trips. My last one took in France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy in 2019, but it was in my old Mondeo Estate.

I can't wait to get my Edge on the ferry soon enough!

It's not real. Photoshop is good but copy and paste includes the screws and the squashed bugs multiple times 🤣

Lol.  I hadn’t even noticed the extra screw !!😆

We had a nice 2009 SMAX Titanium X that was replaced by a 2013 Focus 3 Titanium X after the wife put the SMAX in a ditch and wrote it off. The Focus was a needs must and it was a really nice car. As time went on, we needed something with more room, comfort and luggage capacity. I wanted a Focus ST3 Tourer but was denied by the wife. I said about a Kuga and then we saw an Edge in our local Ford dealer and it was love at first sight.

Value for money, size, features and budget combined did it for us. It was quite hard to find one though, it took 3 months and we eded up getting it from Gravesend Ford, which was 3 hours away. We have had a few issues, but never looked back and love it. Shame it didn't have the EcoBoost engine, but that is my only complaint.
