Ford Focus Xenon headlight replacement

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a Ford Focus 2010 with factory fitted Xenon HID headlights with DRL also.  Self levelling motors have failed and MOT as a result.  Despite numerous searches I seem unable to find replacements other than genuine ford ones at £800 each and only one side is available. Part numbers are 1856838 & 1856842. Is there anybody out there who can advise where I am able to source self levelling xenon replacement from at a more reasonable and less extortionate price? Help!!

If you remove the lamp units and inspect them you'll probably find the pigtails to the levelling motors have fractured. There's a group of 4 wires between 2 plugs i believe, its best to unplug the connectors and solder in some new wires. There is a kit of wires available from a bloke on another Focus forum but they are made with really heavy wires and i'm not happy they would be a permanent cure.

Thanks for the link.  I found those on eBay and despite them looking identical in every way, they have confirmed they are not suitable.  Thanks for the reply

After hours of searching on eBay and all platforms, whilst I can find identical looking lights in shape and built in motors, every supplier says they are not suitable when I provide my VIN number and I have to have genuine Ford parts only.  Surely somebody out there produces replacements? What if I were to have an accident? Would my car be written off because headlights can’t be found! This is very frustrating

Quite probably !!

front end smash 2 headlights @ £800 each plus fitting and a couple of thousand for other stuff would soon see a bill of over £4K and once it reaches more than 60% of the value then it's written off

Lamp units are changed for complete units generally, its only 3rd parties and amateurs that would look to repair stuff themselves. If you cant find a ready made solution then solve it yourself, get a soldering iron and some wires and make your own solution.

I've just realised thats nobody has mentioned the levelling sensors. Do your lights actually do their power up dance when you switch them on? If they do and still wont level then maybe you need to check the levelling sensors, there's 1 each on of the car, they usually either seize and snap the connecting arms or the arms break just because they want to.

I have a 2012 Tit X with xenon (not bi-xenon) lights and they keep letting water in. I can’t paste links but if you go to the autodoc site and search 1418984 and 1418985 it looks like what we’re looking for, far cheaper than what Ford are asking! I’ve some on order.

If you cross reference the compatible OEM numbers however the numbers you’ve stated aren’t listed. I have no idea what’s different between the part I found and the part number you’ve listed. But when I enter my reg onto autodoc it says they’re suitable for my car. Who knows?

Good luck with your search.

How did you get on with these? AUTODOC are telling me that the replacements they have are only suitable for LHD cars. Considering “downgrading” my headlights to halogen units - no way am I paying Ford £1.2k a side. It’s a cheek as my issue is my reflector bowls are burned so the lights are so dim as to be dangerous.

I picked up a new set of lamps from Autodoc last year, Xenon’s though the ST spec with black bezels. Think they had a few variants available, I went for the Hella ones. Mine were definitely RHD spec, was able to cross reference the Hella part no’s against the equivalent Ford FINiS codes to confirm

Managed to get bit of discount by installing and ordering through their App
