Ford focus ecotec 1.8 2009 petrol rpm dip on cold start FIXED

Featured Replies

Hey ford owners

I fixed my problem but couldn't find very much information about it at the time so thought I'd share my experience for anyone else with the same problem.

My problem was that on a cold start when pressing the gas the rpms would dip before rising. Also releasing the clutch and gas in neutral would make the rpms dip to below idle around 500 before bouncing up and occasionally stalling.

First thing I did was clean the throttle body. This did nothing.

I did two things I'm not sure which fixed it.

I noticed my aux belt was wining on a cold start and there was a bit of a rattle so I got it replaced along with the tensioner where the rattle was coming from. I would have got this done anyway.

At the same time I also got the software on my pcm updated. I believe this is what fixed the problem as others with similar problems have reported this to fix it.

Anyway I just thought I would share maybe this will help someone else.
