Hi all I have a 2016 1.5tdci C-max,

sometimes when driving close up to automatic barriers their is a graunching noise from front ,this does not seem to happen when driving slowly and not all the time.

just wondered if it is a warning system,does not apply brakes just makes a noise.

any ideas,Cheers Mick.

I suspect it's the ACS.  It may actually be operating correctly. Although you say it doesn't apply the brakes, if you are "driving close up to barriers" (and, as you say, not when driving slowly) haven't you already applied the brakes yourself?  If so, then you may not notice that the ACS has also applied the brakes.

I've only experienced ACS cutting in once, and it does make a graunching noise as it stamps on the brake pedal for you, and so the ABS cuts in.

Thanks ,the brakes actually did come on as I came onto a roundabout a bit close to a bus,

horrible noise made me jump.
