HELP: Mondeo ST24 (1996/7 pre body kit) fuel gauge issue

Featured Replies

Need help...

This is a ST24 v6 1996/7 model, pre body kit.. vary rare! only has 64K miles 2nd owner from new. We had it at 18months old - Sandicliffe of Nottm... does minimal mileage a year... even less this last 2yrs!

when the fuel gauge shows FULL, it's empty. Ehen its shows Empty.. its a full tank.

Tried everything, my mechanic...

swapped wires over on the fuel pump/system - made no difference

Managed to pick up a 2nd hand instrument panel - still did the same thing (original has been fitted back on)

Picked up a working 2nd hand fuel/pump delivery system (fits in the tank)- not made any difference either. (I could get a new one from Ford, as good as £600 as they get it from Germany! - glad we didn't)

anyone had the same problem.. how can we fix it.. bit annoying it reads reverse.

TIA

Can't you just live with it?

Firstly can we just establish that it used to work correctly during the time you have owned the car ???

The fuel gauge on your car is a very simple bit of kit. If my memory serves me right the gauge on the instrument cluster is connected to a 12v supply via the ignition. The negative is connected to the wiper of the rheostat in the fuel tank sender.

When did it start reading wrong ?
