Can anyone tell me what this pipe is for please?

First of all I’d like to say hi to you all.
Im a newbie on here after buying a Ford for the first time since I had a Mk 5 Cortina years ago. I’ve only had the car a few months and already got a problem I hope you can help me with.

Ive got the code P006A coming up on my OBD reader on my 2011 Mondeo Mk4 2.2l Titanium X Sport.
I’ve taken out the MAF sensor to clean it and whilst checking the pipe work for splits and cracks I found a pipe not connected at one end. Can anyone tell me what’s it’s for please?
is it just a breather pipe or is something missing from my car?

Thanks

Mark

I just popped out to look at mine and I don't have that pipe there, well not immediately visible to me but I only had a quick look.

When I had the P006a error the car was making a whooshing noise and power was down, I found a split in the big intercooler hose running down from the MAP /inlet manifold. You can't get the hose on it's own from Ford so I bought a silicone one from ebay.

It doesn't look like a breather that should be left open intentionally.  Looks like a vacuum pipe for something.  Can remove the engine cover and trace it back to the other end?

Thanks for the info mate. I was hoping someone was gonna say they’ve got the same pipe and it’s just a breather.
I hope mine hasn’t got something missing which has exposed the pipe.
I haven’t found any obvious splits in any other pipes.
I’ve cleaned the MAF sensor with contact cleaner. It seams to have improved a little but not convinced it’s fixed. It still seems under powered

Could be one of the other pipes...it only takes a tiny hole/split, but under pressure it will expand.

I taped up the split on mine (lots of tape wrapped round) and it pierced a hole through it from the pressure eventually, but was a temp measure whilst waiting for the new hose.

Do you have a Powershift gearbox if so that is probably the breather from it.   I have a similar pipe on my 2.0l ecoboost it runs down to the top of the gearbox.

It certainly is.

You’re right! I do have a powershift gearbox. I traced the pipe back today and it does seem to come from the gearbox. thank you so much! That’s such a relief.
I just need to find out why I’m getting the P006a fault code now. It’s gotta be either another pipe that’s damaged or the MAF sensor. Will have another look tomorrow now I know that’s a breather pipe
