Changed Battery, Can't Open Doors!

Featured Replies

Not my car, a pals at work has a 62(I think) plate Mondeo that he changed the battery on.

I'm not sure whether he did it, got a pal or got a garage to do it, but apparently the battery wasn't coded correctly and now he can't open the doors! He's Googled the symptoms and apparently the only option is to break a window to get in!

Sounds a bit extreme! 😳

Anyone got any tips? Apart from choose the smallest/cheapest window to break 😄

Why can't he use the hidden blade in the lock barrel?

Not sure why but apparently that doesn't work either 🤷

I've not actually spoken to him, just heard the story secondhand when I was leaving today, but I'll try and speak to him during the week and find out a bit more.

Not sure, from how the conversation went I assumed that the new battery wasn't coded to the car.

I'm going to have to find out more aren't I? 😀

Definitely!

Even if deadlocked, the hidden blade should work in the door barrel, although it does take extra force.

And batteries aren't coded on Fords like they are on German cars.  Even then, a non-coded battery won't stop the car starting.  At best, the key fob may need resyncing.

That's what I would have thought as well.

Update: not spoken to pal yet but his car was in the works carpark yesterday. Spoke to another workmate who informed me that over a couple of days he sprayed a can of WD-40 in the lock and kept moving it back and forth and eventually got it unlocked 👍

So maybe a lesson for everyone, me included, to maybe use the key in the lock occasionally to keep it from seizing up.

Seized door barrels been there and done that many times but never on my car's as I do all the cars in my household regularly as the wife and kids don't know how to open the door without the remote. 😬
