Keyless entry fault mondeo 2008 tdci

Featured Replies

Hi

I own a mondeo

2008 2.0 tdci titanium X

Manual

182.000 miles

No lights on dash (apart from fuel light)

The past few days its developed a fault with the keyless entry system.

Problem starts with unlocking the car, the fob doesn't unlock or respond in any way.

I used the key inside the fob to open the door and the alarm activates.

I put the fob in the emergency fob slot at the steering column and it still doesn't recognise the fob. (both fobs tried)

Both batteries in both fobs have been replaced, this didn't solve the issue.

If I leave the car for 1hr the car will occasionally recognise the fobs and the fobs will allow to unlock and lock the doors, but still won't recognise the key, the dash screen will light up, but the start power button won't do anything. Tried the fobs again in the slot and still nothing.

Disconnected the battery for an hour, when reconnected it, the alarm activated again and fobs wouldn't do anything.

Occasionally when I leave the car for an hour or so, the fobs will work and start as normal, most recently after running the car, when I came to stop the engine with the power button, it was like it thought it was starting the engine, even though the engine was already running. Pressed the button and the headlights did the left/right sweep even though the engine was already running.

Tested the battery in the engine bay and was reading 12v with engine off.

I do hear a loud clicking noise in the boot area when it doesn't want to start, relay clicking type of noise.

Steering lock doesn't always activate, after shutting down

Totally stumped and waiting to have it on the diagnostic machine.

Was Wondering if anyone had similar problems, and what did you do to overcome the issue.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Main car battery State Of Charge (SOC) is low.

Charge the battery for at least 8 hours (12 would be better).

Make sure the charger positive lead is connected directly to the battery terminal and the negative lead must be connected to the main vehicle chassis earth (do NOT connect to the battery terminal).
