Parking Sensor removal Ford Focus

Featured Replies

I want to remove an offside  rear parking sensor on the rear bumper of my 2017 Focus 1.0 Ecoboost to touch up some cracked paintwork around it.  Try as I might I can't find a procedure as to how to do this.  I am hoping it isn't necessary to remove the whole bumper and that the sensor can be  partially pulled/prised out with the bumper in situ so that the wiring can be disconnected.  Can anyone advise how to go about this please?

Apologies if this has been covered but a search of the Forum hasn't revealed the answer I am Looking for.

There are two parts to these sensors, the actual sensor and the housing. You'll need access to the back of the sensor where you have to open the housing clips that hold the sensor in place. The sensor then comes out into the back of the bumper. The housing can then be pulled out. It's hard to explain and I cant find a decent YouTube video, but the sensor goes into the bumper and the housing comes out.

When I bought mine from the scrap yard, the plonker that worked there, tried to pull the whole unit out and ended up distorting the housing, before I stepped in and told him I'll take them out!!

Thanks Nathan, I think I understand your overview. I need the housing to be removed to do the paint touch up. Does that mean the whole bumper has to come off to get at the housing clips? Attached pics show why I want to remove it. Sensor in question is the one under the fuel flap. Or can I get access by removing the wheel arch liner?IMG_20220423_133230484.thumb.jpg.23f971c549629a46e33c2cda86980aac.jpg

Mine is an estate and I only have the four rear sensors, so I'm not sure if this side one can be accessed by just taking wheel arch cover out. I think there are 2 or 3 torx screws that need to be removed within the wheel arch and I would of thought you could pull the plastic liner forward enough to be able to get your hand up behind.

If you can feel it you'll need to (carefully as they go brittle) spread open the plastic clips.

And push the sensor into the bumper. This is a picture of the sensor with the lugs highlighted.

Only then will you be able to pull the sensor bracket out through the bumper by pushing the lugs in.

A bit of a long winded description but I'm assuming you'll be doing this by feel.

Thanks that is very helpful. I will update when the job is done, but it isn't a high priority just yet.

Hi, if anybody has changed parking sensors can you advise if they are colour coded or is the housing in which they sit colour coded and the sensor sits behind the mounting collar. Job to tell until one is removed.

Thanks for any info.

You have to paint them to match your car.

Depends on model , my Mondeo I could get prepainted genuine sensors from ford.
