Mondeo mk5 saloon, rear seats dont lie flat

Featured Replies

Hi All

My old Mk4 TDCI Mondeo's rear seats, when folded down, made a very nice, enormous and very flat boot space,

My Mk 5 Mondeo, rear seats DO NOT lie flat, and have a whacking great step up, so even with the seats folded, its impacting on my available, and usable loading area

Has any one been able to mod, or know of a mod, to the hinges etc, that could get this very annoying anomaly fixed

If i cant fix this issue, then the car is very likley going to be part exed, for a car with a proper boot space, for my expanding collection of RC planes

regards

Steve

The only way is to remove the bench seat when you want to lay the seats flat. I admin a large active Mk5 Facebook group, if there is another way then one of the members will have done and would happily tell you.

Thanks for the reply, but removing the bench seat will allow the seat backs to lie a tad lower, but still with an enormous step, i can only see any improvement is with a new hinge assembly, on the 2+1 seat back to chassis mounting

My "other" plan would be to make a false floor for the boot area, to allow a levelish floor from the tailgate to the front seats, but this is still just a bodge, and not the way forward

That was going to be another suggestion, raise the boot to match the seats. I would guess it's a few inches in depth. If you made a false floor you could probably leave it in full time and use the gap as extra storage for first aid kit, umbrella and maybe batteries and your RC transmitters 🤷‍♂️

Potentially make a frame with the correct depth of batons, brace it length ways so the compartment would be in thirds. Then get a solid piece of MDF and cover it in black felt, hinge it behind the bench seat so it lifts up to reveal the compartment. Just a thought.
