Mk4 1.8 zetec not gettin diesel thru

Featured Replies

So she ran outta diesel. Refilled the filter cracked all the lines,  no fuel gettin thru. Tried a priming bulb to fill the filter did that but don’t have the connections to fill the pump anyone any idea how to get it filled to try get her started. I can’t get the connections of or do I need to take it to a garage As Ive only got hand tools   I’m hoping the injection pump ain’t knackered as I tried sucking fuel out with a pipe and the mk 1 mouth lol

If you've managed to prime the filter so that it's full, then that shld be enough for the pump to take over. Might take a few cranks tho' - but dont crank for long periods - 15 sec bursts. What I did was to use the priming bulb to draw fuel thro' the filter and into a bottle. Then using a (new) turkey baster managed to squirt some of the filtered fuel down the pipe to the pump. If you're interested, those special connectors, are called Bundy connectors.

If it ran dry you'll need to prime the whole system rather than just the filter.  If you can get the priming bulb joined semi-permanent that would be the safest way to get it going again, and is what the garage are likely to do.  You will need a good battery as it'll still take some cranking to get the pressure up and bleed the air from the HP side.

Alternatively, you can tow it in gear to start it.  Not ideal as it spins the pump fast while dry but it does generally work.  Obviously jump on the clutch as soon as it catches otherwise you'll need to add a bumper to the parts list.
