asymmetric hood gaps?

Featured Replies

Hi, there,

I’m going to buy a used c-max grand, first registered in 2018. When I checked the car at the dealer today, I realized that the gaps on both sides of the engine hood are not identical (see pictures). Is this normal on a C-MAX (grand)?

In the meantime, I noticed that the front windshield was manufactured in 2019, one year after the car was registered. Not sure if it was correlated to the asymmetric hood position. The dealer had no idea about the windshield replacement, but he attributed it to damage from flying stones. He insisted on its zero accident record, but promised me to call the previous insurance company and Ford to ask about the repair history. So far, I don’t see any other suspicious.

My question is, where else inspections should I make to learn more about it, and is there a way to know more background history about the car?

What do you think about this?

Thanks.

Well I personally would get an HPI check. Use someone like 'car vertical' and it stands a very good chance to tell you if its had an insurance claim made against it.

Sounds like it's made of bits from an American car 'Hood' 'Windshield' and I bet it runs on 'Gas'  🤣

For Example:-

Hi, unofix,

Many thanks for your quick answer.

I’m actually in Austria, raising question here because my German is so poor.

You are right: it runs on gas. I suppose C-Max is a German car, as a Focus variant. But I’m not sure about it.

A further question is, how much I can trust the HPI check? For example, if the insurance was not involved in a crash, does the report still show the record? Or, does the database include the information from Ford service departments?

A purchase test is agreed by the dealer, but the next available appointment is in 3-4 weeks. He cannot wait for that long. Everything is slow now.

Read the terms of the individual search companies. Many have an insurance included for protection against things like the say the search company says it has done a genuine 45,000 miles, and the 5 months after you buy the car you find out that it has actually done 155,000 miles.

Generally the more expensive the search you pay for, then the better the protection cover you get.

You really need to buy a proper car, one with a 'Bonnet' and a 'Windscreen' and that runs on Petrol 🤣

haha, now I get the joke. I was wondering how did you figure out it was a car on "gas", or say "petrol" instead of diesel ....

Being a non-native english speaker, i'm not sensitive to the British-English-American-English jokes. But it was a good one, especially when I realized how funny I was.  haha.

Thanks for your tips.
