Miles to do before towing?

Ford dealer service department  said there is no need to wait to do some solo mileage on a new diesel auto Kuga  before towing a caravan. "Running in isn't required anymore they said". Perhaps being a bit old fashion I was expecting to have to do 1000 miles before towing. Am I out of date?

    Engines haven't needed 'running in' for the last 30 years !

    All that is required is that you don't 'red line it' in every gear and just drive normal for the first couple of hundred miles, before then thrashing it 😉

    I'd be more worried about bedding the brakes in before towing than the engine tbh!  :unsure:
