Hi what tax band should my Ford Mondeo 2010 2.0 tdci 140 bhp be in.

Its an original Irish Car from new but they have the C02 rate on the Log book down as 156 co2 and I have been told that it should be below that.

I am currently paying €600 a year for road Tax but should be only €400 a year any help would be great thanks

Just looking at the gov.ie website section on car tax - phew! And I thought the UKs were high.

Basically you are aiming to contest the CO2 figure that has been on the registration documents for 12 years and presumably tax has been paid on that basis all those years.

I have spotted a couple of road tests from the 2010 period and CO2 figures vary from 156 upwards. In later tests they can be as low as 139.

These CO2 figures seem to vary considerably from one model year to the next - testing methods have changed several times over the years and manufacturers tweak the cars to obtain best results.

(During the period I have had my car for instance, the CO2 figure quoted on price lists has varied several times, though the definitive figure for tax purposes remains as per the registration document.)

I imagine you will have considerable difficulty in trying to get the figure on the registration document altered unless you can produce definitive evidence that the original registered figure was wrong. I can fully understand you wanting to try, though!

Just tell them you have fitted a special emissions reducing device that was recommended by VW 🤣
