this is what the aa told me

this is the code Engine control 1 - 57Y / Diesel EDC 16CP39P126000 - Anti-theft device.

Are you wanting to fix this fault?

  • Author

hi yes I am,but not sure what it is

'Anti theft' is the engine immobiliser.

The fault code has been slightly lost in your quote but it's P1260.

It's possible you have a faulty key fob, not being detected by the car, so worth trying another fob if you have a spare.

The PCM may be damaged through water ingress.  The cluster (Speedo clocks) may be faulty.  This can happen after a remap as well, do you know if the car has been mapped?

I have the original 2 key gobs,I've had the car 3 yes not been mapped  can the code be removed???

Same problem with both fobs?  We can rule those out then.

The fault code is warning of a fault, just removing it is unlikely to fix the problem, the code will just return again.  I would have expected the AA to clear any codes when they attended.

Needs further diagnosis I'm afraid.

Common causes of code P1260

Code P1260 could be set by conditions other than actual theft conditions. For instance, low battery voltages, incorrectly performed jump-starts, or even simple battery replacements can all cause this code.

Other common causes of code P1260 could also include the following-

  • Corrupted software in either (or both) the PCM and instrument cluster
  • Defective PATS control module
  • Use of non-PATS enable ignition keys
  • Use of damaged ignition smart keys
  • Defects in the PCM power supply circuits and/or relay
  • Shorted or interrupted VREF (reference voltage)
  • Loss of power or ground in the PCM power supply circuit(s)
  • Previous or unresolved theft condition
  • Failed or failing PCM
