Help please steering gone but no faults

Featured Replies

Please help, I have a 2011 ford cmax and the steering has completely gone (can't move it at all) I have plugged in my diagnostic but it's not bringing up any fault codes.

2011 was the crossover year on the Focus for steering types.  Do you know if your CMax has a fully electric rack or the older electro-hydraulic rack?

Also, are you using Ford specific diagnostics, or just generic OBD?

Edit - You say you can't move it at all - is the steering lock on?  Or can you move it a bit with a lot of force as if it was a non-PAS car?

Hi, it's a fully electric steering rack, I've just used a generic obd.

The steering lock isn't on so you can move the steering with great force. I had to have rac out when it went an they towed us home on an A frame as they didn't know what the problem was either. I've only had the car for 6 months and need it to get my kids around.

Ok thanks.  These full electric racks are a common failure.  Most likely need a full replacement rack unfortunately.

The wiring should be checked first to make sure that's not damaged.

If you bought the car from a dealer and you've had it less than 6 months you may be able to claim a warranty repair.
