Petro engine start stop

Featured Replies

Hi, this question would apply to other models that are PHEV.

I own a 21 plate Kuga ST line that I've had for about 6 weeks and I'm loving it so far.

I'm impressed with how smoothly the petrol engine kicks in and out when driving and how the regenerative braking energy brings the electic drive back to life even when the electric miles are reading zero.

What I would like to know is; when driving on the petrol engine and the electric then kicks in for a short distance before resuming petrol driving again, is the petrol engine shut off requiring effectively a 12v battery start up? If so would this not greatly affect the 12v battery life somewhat.

Any techies out there that could elucidate?

Regards

Paul C
