08 Ghia Estate Auto, Fob not working, alarm problem.

Featured Replies

I don't know if the two things are related but they occurred at the same time. Neither fob will open the car, but the central locking works on all doors and boot with either key in the lock. New batteries in both. No problem with immobiliser.

The second problem is the alarm. If I open the car with the key and put the key into the ignition immediately and turn it on, all is ok. If I don't put the key in the ignition, within five seconds the alarm sounds. Also, if any door other the the driver door is opened after unlocking, the alarm will sound if the key is not in the ignition. A warning that the alarm system needs a service comes up.

Any ideas? I would l like to get both problems solved if the solutions are within reason. Unfortunately age now precludes me from doing any but the most simple task.

Answer to the second problem first. This is not a fault, it is designed to do exactly what it's doing. If you open the door using the metal key then you have approximately 5 seconds to turn the ignition on.

The problem with the keyfobs is the usual issue of the new batteries being of poor quality or not correctly fitted.

Get two new good quality batteries - Energizer, Panasonic, Duracell and then before fitting them check the battery voltage with a multimeter they should be 3.30V anything less than that the battery is poor.

Thank you for your answer. I fitted Duracell batteries in both fobs and neither worked.

did you check the voltage with a meter ?

have you cleaned the coating off the batteries with acetone or IPA ?
