Tyre question.

Featured Replies

My 2006 Ka is fitted currently with 165/65/13 tyres and they aren't in good condition - one of them is date coded 02 meaning it's 20 years old - six years older than the car and it's cracking up. My local tyre place has pointed out that 165/65/13 is now a rarer size of tyre and so is more expensive than similar small tyres. My question is can I fit alternate tyres such as 165/70/13 or perhaps a 155 tyre - what do you think please - thanks.

To keep the same rolling radius you would need to use something like a 175/60-13 tyre so your speedo remains reasonably accurate. Upping the width by 10mm on the same rim should be fine. However I don't see why you would need to. Black Circles seem to have a reasonable selection of your original size at a reasonable price.

I think your tyre garage is just having a laugh 🤣

165/65 13 tyres are both common and also cheap. A typical price is around £36 each, have a look at Black Circles who have a range of tyres and prices.

Having looked I tend to agree - I'll shop around rather than just believe what the former old faithful garage has quoted. Thanks.

I have not checked your size tyres but I often find tyreshopper and / or Asda tyres are cheaper than black circles.  But I appreciate where the fitting centres are can influence which might be best choice.    The £36 at black circles does not include fitting.
