Poor light output on dip beam

Featured Replies

Good Morning all. I'm new to this forum and also to owning a Ford. I have a 2009 Mondeo Titanium x-sport. It is fitted with the headlights that use a xenon bulb for dip only and with the projector casing, normal halogen for main beam and includes the kerb illumination lights (not sure of the correct term). My problem is the light output on dip is practically non existent from the offside light, this is the only thing it failed its MoT test on, despite fitting a new xenon bulb. I have been told that the inside of the prolector can go opaque with age. As a new complete headlight is in around £500 can any of the aftermarket projector lamps be fitted. ANY help or advice with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

It's possible to clean the lens by removing the headlight and bulb, then using a microfibre cloth on a stick to clean the inside. Be gentle, and don't use a screwdriver as the stick, as the lens is easy to scratch.

I would also check that the levelling motors are working correctly for the offside light, in case its pointing down instead of the correct angle. You should see the light pattern move for both lights when you turn them on.

Note that the xenon lights are also used for main beam. The halogens are there to suppliment the xenons. This is mainly because xenons take a while to warm up, so aren't good to use if you need to flash the lights.

The kerb illumination lights are called cornering lights.

Ok, I'll try cleaning. The n/s auto levels ok, but the o/s is so dim it is difficult to tell. I'll try cleaning the projector lens and check the motor. Thanks.
