Decat and mots

Featured Replies

Hello chaps,

Had my mondeo about a year now so it’s due an mot, however the previous owners put a decat on it and not kept the original cat unfortunately. So how are you chaps getting them through?

I’m not friendly with any local mechanics because I tend to do the majority of the work myself which has left me in a bit of sticky situation.

I’m not sure I’m allowed to post this here as it’s quite a grey area but I figure there’s no harm in asking and will happily listen should someone want to put me right.

We're not...  I had to sell my Focus in 2018 when the DPF regs changed.

I assume it's a diesel?  If petrol you've got no chance of passing emissions.  If diesel, then it'll probably pass if it doesn't look like a decat and there aren't any obvious cut & weld lines.

Ultimately, you either need to buy another cat for it, or befriend a tester.  Perhaps attend the local industrial estate cruise on a Saturday night and ask anyone with a pop & bang map where they're getting MOT's.
