Trailer Prep

Featured Replies

Looking at fitting a towbar to my 2018 Zetec hatch when Looking at the dedicated wiring looms it mentions some 2017-2018 vehicles may not have been fitted with trailer prep how do I know if mine has it? Where do I look for the trailer loom?

Once fitted does the dedicated electrics need to be programmed to the car? If so would it be less hassle to go for universal relays? I've fitted towbars in the past to older cars so have no problem fitting them

The harness for the trailer module is normally located in the rear quarter panel behind the carpet trim in the boot on the drivers side.

Your profile says it's a 2008 Mondeo but  I assume the question is to do with the 2018 model.

All the lights on the car are controlled by the Canbus system which monitors the operation and loading of the lighting system. Hence the need for the trailer control module which is connected to the Canbus. Once fitted the car will need to be programmed so that it knows that a towbar is fitted.

Hi unofix I hadn't realised how long ago I last used the forum now updated my profile, it would appear we are a 2 Mondeo household now a 2013 1.6 eco Business model that's the wife's and my 2018 2.0 Zetec

Yes you are correct in that I'm asking about the 2018 one I have established I don't have the trailer prep but what is the difference?

Thanks

I don't know for sure but I imagine that Ford make a complete wiring harness (much money) that will connect to the BCM at the front and run all the way to the rear. Perhaps the easiest way is to ask your local Ford dealer parts department to see if they can supply the missing harness.

I have the Ford wiring schematic for your car which I can upload to Google drive if it will be of any use to you ?

Hi unofix no sorry I don't use Google drive ( that I know of lol) I have been looking into it and it looks like extra power cables that run from the glove box area to the boot
