Mondeo 1.8 Petrol Knocking?????????

Featured Replies

Hiya my mondeo has started to make a knocking noise sound like when your tappets start knocking but it only starts knocking when its warmed up its lovely when cold any ideas guy/girls

First of all, please don't use more than one question mark in a title. Second, your problem could be rod-knock, when the con-rods wear, usually due to the engine having high millage, being reved a lot, or having dirty oil. Though if it's more of a slap it could be piston-slap, caused when your timing is out. Try changing the oil and putting some oil additive in with it to help lubricate all the parts better.

is it a knock or more of a pinking sound, piston slap would be worse when cold,a common cause of rattles and pinking when warm on the 1.8 is the swirl plates or there shaft worn.
