Judder around 2k revs

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to these forums, I own a 2009 Ford Mondeo mk4, 2.0tdci 6 speed diesel. Mainly in 4th, 5th and 6th gear when accelerating with foot down, just before and untill 2k revs the car judders as if it’s struggling, and then goes after 2k revs. Sometimes it feels like it in third, but never 1st and second. Any ideas? Car is on 115k miles, been serviced fully every 8k miles since I have owned from 80k

When did it last have a new clutch ?

Hi, it's usually caused by a split in  a boost pipe. But splits in those pipes are quite hard to find as the woven inner lining holds the split together till boost pressure opens it up, hence  the judder at 2k - when the turbo kicks in.

It hasn’t in my ownership therefore I don’t believe it ever has. The clutch biting point is low, no problem changing gears or any other clutch symptoms

Cheers for the reply, I was told actually around a year ago there is a small split in a boost pipe but was nothing to worry about as of yet. I never thought about it again untill I saw this comment

Hi all, car went for MOT today and passed with flying colours, smoke tested all pipes and no boost leaks or splits. Full service with all filters also carried out. Now however, around the 2k revs mark, again in 4th, 5th and 6th, the clutch I believe is slipping, foot down, revs jump to around 2.5k and then re adjust to normal but still with full throttle. Am I facing the dreaded DPF and clutch change? And if so, do people recommend the LUK kit?

Bump

I personally buy genuine Motorcraft parts everytime. And don't forget the clutch slave cylinder - false economy to skimp on that one.  And while the bellhousing is off... Consider changing that crankshaft oil seal too.

So no split in a boost pipe after all....? They are notoriously hard to detect without removing them and twisting and bending them, unless smoke was injected  at boost pressure the split wldnt have revealed itself.

It's the DMF (dual mass flywheel) that the clutch is bolted to.  The DPF is in the exhaust - diesel particulate filter.  Probably a typo but potentially a costly mistake if not lol!

When the revs jump, does the road speed also increase or not?

Oh and sometimes the central locking doesn’t work
